Compass’ Senior Information Policy Analyst and SDI Expert, Roger Longhorn, attended the Littoral 2012 Conference, held in Oostende, Belgium, from 27-29 November. Littoral 2012 was the 11th edition in this much respected series of biennial littoral conferences.
With increasing pressure from both land and sea, understanding coastal processes and adapting governance and management to present and future challenges is crucial. In coastal regions, typically a large number of users and functions come together. Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) has been developed over the past two decades to combine functions, users and decision levels in a sustainable way. However, with the acceleration of global change, the economic crisis and the demographic shift, a new and improved ICZM is needed to safeguard our coasts of tomorrow. The Littoral 2012 Conference focused on four themes that will shape the coasts of tomorrow.
Longhorn also serves on the board of the Coastal & Marine Union (EUCC), as Information Policy Advisor. EUCC are the main organiser for Littoral 2012.
